Contrary to the popular belief held by many non-Brits, we do in fact have a spectacular setting for summer, and there truly is nothing better than a sunny British summer time on the West Sussex coast. Worthing, Bognor Regis and of course the famous West Wittering beach all offer exceptional settings for a summer beach day.
A quick Google search asking what to do this summer in West Sussex will promptly reveal a number of treasures – a visit to Arundel Castle, the Weald and Downland Living Museum and the notorious Worthing Summer Seafront Festival from Saturday, July 22, to Sunday, July 30 to name a few.
There is something for everyone across the local towns and villages, so it’s no wonder that we are experiencing a positively buoyant market, particularly driven by out of area buyers who are looking to invest in property and even completely relocate to the serenity of West Sussex.
Littlehampton Harbour Waterfront Festival is running from Saturday July 22 – Sunday, July 23. It’s a celebration of all things nautical and showcases a multitude of activities that are available to do along the river, including dinghy sailing, yachts, workboats, powerboats, paddleboarding, angling, RNLI lifeboats, jetskis, flyboards, and hovercraft.
Arundel, most famously known for the historic Arundel Castle also provides a number of alternative places to visit including the Arundel Jailhouse if you love music and murder mystery, or perhaps a refreshing splash at the local Lido is more to your liking.
If Bognor Regis is where you’re heading and spending time this summer, then we highly recommend a trip to Hotham Park. Home to a beautiful miniature railway, one of the best crazy golf courses, children’s play area, and great café. There’s also an Alice in Wonderland trail, decorated with beautiful carved wooden statues from the story. On Sunday 23rd July, the Rotary Club of Bognor Regis and Town Council will be putting together an afternoon of free country music, featuring Helena Mace and Alabama Stills. Chichester is a Roman cathedral city and the only city in West Sussex. Whether you’re a family looking for adventure, an individual intrepid explorer, or a couple looking for a weekend getaway, Chichester has it all. There are plenty of things to see and do in and around this historic city; in addition to a visit to Arundel Castle, our top five picks would have to be a trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace, the largest Roman home in Britain, The Barn Little London, a day out at The Aldingbourne Country Centre, walking around Chichester Harbour or even a visit over to the Weald and Downland Living Museum where the popular BBC series ‘The Repair Shop’ is filmed.
If you’re a fan of smaller scale settings and local community gatherings, Walberton is hosting a Summer Flower Show, Dog Show & Village Fete Saturday 8th July, held at the Walberton Village Hall and playing field.
Also on Saturday 8th July is The Sussex Steam Rally which is held at Parham Park and running into Sunday 9th July. The Rally will host a variety of exhibits, including a display of steam traction engines and vintage vehicles, as well as hosting trade stalls, local crafts and a traditional fun fair to keep the whole family entertained. You can get your tickets here.
Whatever you end up doing this summer, we hope you are able to explore and enjoy some of the wonders that West Sussex has to offer!
