Name:
Richard Moores
Job title and office:
Owner of Sims Williams, based in our Walberton Branch
How long have you worked as an estate agent?
35 years! I started as a ‘Saturday Boy’ for a good independent estate agent, Brian Dodd, who would often ask me questions about our available properties. If I answered, ‘I don’t know Brian,’ his usual response was, ‘Lose your memory, lose your job!’ Service was and still is a major factor in what being an exceptional agent is all about.
How long have you worked for Sims Williams?
We bought the business from Mr & Mrs Sims-Williams 19 years ago – I’ve loved every minute of it.
What qualifications (inc. membership to professional bodies) do you hold?
I am a Member of the National Association of Estate Agents and have been for over 25 years. We encourage all our staff to achieve this level as it’s vital for sellers to feel that the sale of their biggest asset is being handled by professionals.
What’s your favourite place in the beautiful Sims Williams “patch”?
How lucky we are to operate in this patch of West Sussex. Walberton is an obvious gem and a well-kept secret. I love the Elmer and Middleton coastline – on a sunny day there’s nowhere better but, my favourite view has to be looking from Bury Hill towards Amberley. I’ve told my children that I want my ashes scattered there – but not any time soon!!
What makes Sims Williams different from other estate agents?
That’s easy, it the people I work with.
We have a great mix of individuals in all our offices. I would be extremely surprised if there were many other agents with a more experienced and conscientious team of property professionals, who genuinely take great pride in all they do. And fun, we have great fun during what can be the most stressful of time for buyers and sellers.
What’s your top advice for anyone trying to sell or rent their property?
Come to Sims Williams!
In all seriousness, the basics haven’t changed in the 35 years I’ve been selling houses. Price according to market conditions, be wary of the over valuing agent and when it comes to service and results, just remember that ‘you get what you pay for.’
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’ve got two sons and I enjoy spending time with them. One is at Birmingham University and the other took his GCSE’s last year.
